Man, we freaking LOVE meditation.
We know it sounds “woo woo,” but we still can’t sing its praises enough. There’s a reason we’ve incorporated meditation in our daily practice and much of our content library at buddhi.
It’s powerful. Period. Even better, it’s easy!
Just what are its powerful perks? We’re so glad you asked!
Rest that’s up to five times more refreshing than a nap
More resistance to that “fight or flight” stressed-out feeling
Improved mental resilience
Longer attention span
Reduced blood pressure
And that’s not even an exhaustive list! Best of all, these benefits are accessible even if you think there’s too much going on in your head to “zen out”.
The goal of meditation is not to “empty your mind” entirely or stop new thoughts from arising. The idea is to practice simply letting them be. The more you can develop this skill, the more benefits you’ll see throughout your entire life. In the words of former Broadway performer and founder of Ziva Meditation Emily Fletcher, “We meditate to get good at life, not to get good at meditation.”
The idea that it’s best done sitting criss-cross applesauce on the floor is yet another misconception! If the mere thought of untangling your limbs and clambering up from the floor makes you physically ache, you’ve got other options. Meditation can be done lying in your bed (or on your acupressure mat), sitting comfortably in a chair, or even while taking your fur-baby for a walk.
There are literally hundreds of techniques, but don’t let that intimidate you...
We’ve put together a few of buddhi’s favorite resources to get you started:
There’s no “right” way to meditate; different approaches work better for different people. If you’ve never meditated before, there are countless meditation apps to help you sort through your options. Many are even free! Insight TImer and Headspace are beginner-friendly, and allow you to sort through content to find the best practice for you. Whether you’re looking for a way to de-stress, sleep better, process bad news, or get into a happier headspace, you’re covered.
